The Luge Federation of India is the recognised governing body for luge in India, a member of the Indian Olympic Association and the International Luge Federation. LFI empowers athletes, coaches, judges and enthusiasts by creating opportunities to engage, develop and realise their potential across every aspect of the sport.
Our work spans grassroots participation, youth development, technical education, national-team preparation, athlete selection, event administration, integrity, international relations and the long-term development of winter-sport infrastructure in India.

History of LFI
India's place on the ice.
One of the few winter-sport disciplines contested by India internationally, luge in India is governed by the Luge Federation of India, headquartered in Nainital, Uttarakhand. Established in 1994, the federation was initially registered as the Indian Amateur Luge Association and recognised by the Indian Olympic Association and the International Luge Federation.
Renamed the Luge Federation of India in 2016, LFI oversees Indian participation in the Winter Olympics, World Championships and other competitive events while building stronger domestic foundations for the next generation.
Luge origins
From sledge to sport.
Luge is a precision sport developed around the 16th century that became organised competition in the 19th century. Its name comes from the French word for “sledge”. Like bobsleigh, it developed as a sport in Switzerland, where hotel owners built early tracks for thrill-seeking tourists.
The first international race was held in Davos in 1883 along an icy four-kilometre road between Davos and Klosters.
